Abstract

The death rate due to covid-19 among medical personnel, especially doctors, nurses and midwives is increasing day by day. This is based on the low level of community compliance in implementing health protocols and dishonesty of patients to midwives which causes more and more infections. Appropriate screening of patients should be carried out before providing obstetric care. The purpose of this study was to describe the screening performed by midwives before implementing midwifery services. The research design was a descriptive survey. The population was all midwives in East Java. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling so that the sample size was 208 respondents. Data collection methods used a questionnaire distributed via the google form link. Analyze data by percentage. The results showed that almost half of the respondents (32.3%) had completed a complete screening of the patient (temperature check, symptom screening, exposure history screening and rapid test) when implementing midwifery services. However, there were still midwives (16.4%) who screened their patients by checking the temperature alone. Ideally, complete screening for Covid-19 in all pregnant women who are about to give birth needs to be done regularly. This is based on findings from a study in New York, of 215 mothers who gave birth, 15.3% (33 cases) were positive, with the majority of positive cases (88%) asymptomatic.
