Abstract

Premature rupture of membranes is a pregnancy complication that interferes with the health of the mother and fetus, increasing the risk of LBW birth. Many factors cause the birth of LBW babies. Appropriate special measures should be taken to reduce the occurrence of LBW. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between premature rupture of membranes and the incidence of low birth weight babies at the Syuhada Hajj Hospital, Blitar City. This study used a correlational design with the independent variable being mothers with PROM and the dependent variable being LBW. Research at the Syuhada Haji Hospital, Blitar city on 15-18 September 2020 used medical records, a population of 599 with simple random sampling technique obtained a sample of 164 respondents. In this study, the instrument used was a data collection sheet by looking at medical records. The results showed that the sample of respondents who experienced premature rupture of membranes who experienced LBW were as many as 20 respondents (12.2%) while the mothers who did not have premature rupture of membranes who experienced LBW were 7 respondents (4,3,7%). mothers with premature rupture of membranes who did not experience LBW were 63 respondents (36.4%), mothers without premature rupture of membranes who did not experience LBW were 74 respondents (45.1%). The value of ρ value is obtained, the value of ρ = 0.008 <α 0.05, which means the relationship between premature rupture of membranes and the incidence of low birth weight babies at the Syuhada Haji Hospital in 2019 with a contingency coefficient value of 0.204 is included in the low relationship category. The occurrence of low birth weight babies has a higher risk for mothers with premature rupture of membranes, so it is necessary to increase high vigilance, getting you to get comprehensive antenatal care.
